Double heart valve replacement ( Aortic Valve & Mitral Valve ) in an young adult.
Mr. Denzil 38 yrs male suffered from Rheumatic Severe Mitral Stenosis & Aortic stenosis, diagnosed few months back when he was investigated for his complaints of breathlessness. During his cardiac check up, Echocardiography showed that his Mitral Valve has narrowed critically to 0.9cm2 leading to Severe back pressure on pulmonary artery system . Apart from this his Aortic valve also found to leaky & stenosed. Because of these two heart valves malfunctioning his heart had enlarged with reduction in pumping capacity . He was advised to undergo Mitral Valve Replacement & Aortic valve replacement ( Double heart valve replacement ) at the earliest .He was admitted in June 18 at Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent successful Mitral Valve Replacement, and Aortic valve replacement ( Double heart valve replacement ) by Dr. Pavan Kumar successfully . As he is of young age 38 yrs Dr. Pavan Kumar replaced both valve by Bileaflet Mechanical heart valve prosthesis ( St. Jude mechanical valve prosthesis) which lasts life long with adequate blood thinner anticoagulation. This operation of Double heart valve replacement ( Aortic Valve replacement & Mitral valve replacement) is not a routine operation as heart valve disease has become much less common now days. Still such Double heart valve replacement heart operations are very successfully done with great results.
